Hey everyone,
Paxton Gate just asked me to teach another mouse taxidermy class - and it sold out before I had a chance to tell anyone.
So I'm doing a second one in March. I made a little ad that appears in the listing section (down below the posts) if anyone is interested.
Cheers,
Jeanie
PS this tribe has been quiet.

Re: Taxidermy class in SF
Thu, February 3, 2005 - 1:02 AMCool, Jeanie,
I loved your "mouse-a-dermy" when I first saw it at Paxton Gate a few years ago. I'll definately be interested in taking your class.

Mon, March 21, 2005 - 1:11 AMHey Jeanie (and hi Dan!),
I had a blast in your class today. I'm very happpy with how my mouse turned out. I posed him to look like he's trying to get a hug, so his hunched up shoulders look a bit more natural :)
Anyway, thanks. I have plans to use some mice in some of my kinetic works, and automata, so I'll keep the tribe posted on how that goes if it does. Eventually I plan to work on articulating them. -

Mon, March 21, 2005 - 12:54 PMThanks!!! Always fun to have more budding taxidermists!!! If I haven't posted this before, Amy's Taxidermy has a nice pictorial on skinning a rat - great for reference.

Look for the link on the left that says "skinning pictures"

Re: Taxidermy class in SF
Mon, March 21, 2005 - 1:56 PMThat is a great reference - without anything to provide scale it looks just like the mouse did.
I'm wondering about the step where she salts and pins the rat's skin down until it is sufficiently dry. I thought we didn't want the skin to dry out at all. -

Re: Taxidermy class in SF
Mon, March 21, 2005 - 2:20 PMMice have much thinner skin. It's not needed. I never really found it that nessicary with rats either, but its a needed if you plan on tanning.
